An intensely style-conscious Brooklyn woman was recently having a long overdue lunch with a friend who had been living for the past eight years in Berlin. The friend had moved back to New York, and she was aghast at a clear change in New York's street style:
"What is going on with all these yoga pants? What has happened to New York? Why is everyone wearing pajamas?"
Things become oddly contentious when yoga pants, athleisure, and leggings-as-pants are put under scrutiny. People get hostile over very laid-back pants.
At And We Evolve, we don't have a stake in this debate: we don't sell leggings, athletic gear, or athleisure. It's too intimate a category to sell #revolved. Instead, we encourage women to be intentional about how they show up in the world and how they want to feel, and both are heavily influenced by how one dresses. We celebrate women who see the sidewalk as their runway and who use their bodies as canvases for the art that is fashion. Street style is an important element of how a city--and, of course, a person--expresses the local flavor.
We also celebrate clothes that are super comfortable, and that allow you to do handstands whenever you feel like it. Dress the way you want to feel, and you pretty much can't go wrong.Read More
"typically we come up with our to-do lists, our bucket lists, and our strategic plans--all the stuff we want to have, get and experience outside of ourselves. All of those aspirations are being driven by an innate desire to feel a certain way. What if, first, we got clear on how we actually wanted to feel within ourselves, and then we designed our to-do lists?... First, get clear on how you want to feel. Then, do stuff that makes you feel that way."Read More
Shopping for vintage and secondhand plus-size clothing is hard. Finding plus-size vintage is challenging because vintage sizes skew much smaller: a vintage "size 10" could be a size 8 or even a size 4. (Think "the Gap" sizing, and then picture the exact opposite). Shopping for contemporary secondhand clothing in sizes fourteen and up can present a challenge because generally, when people are parting ways with clothes that no longer fit them, it's because they're sizing up. Hence, we're super excited about And We Evolve's Plus Collection.Read More
This is a bad habit among a stunning percentage of women: we regularly wear about 20% of what's in our closets. We wear things, we let our laundry pile up, we do our laundry, we feel like a war hero for having done our laundry, and then we dress ourselves from our basket of clean, unfolded laundry until the next time we run out of clothes we regularly wear.
This is totally understandable (again, doing laundry is the worst). But, your clothes will live longer, happier lives if they are stored appropriately.
Here's a quick run-down of how to store your clothes so they hold their shape and last as long as possible...Read More
If you've been fairly brand loyal for the entire time that you've had your own money to buy clothes, you've been shopping from very edited collections. If you regularly refresh your wardrobe at H&M or LOFT or Nordstrom, it's likely that most of what you would browse would be adjacent to your style. It was these companies' jobs to produce pieces consistent with their brand, to please their customers.
If shopping at the mall is like eating at the food court, shopping #revolved is like exploring the spices at an open air market: there are so many colors and textures and combinations to explore. To increase your odds of success and avoid overwhelm, go in with an idea of what you're looking for. You're most likely to find things you like when you have helpful parameters (i.e. "I'm looking for a chambray shirt" or "I'm looking for garlic").Read More
